Exemplary projects designed by Digital UIC users

Dazalyn Moreno is afirst-generation graduate who earned her degree in December 2024. She studied English-Professional Writing and currently works as an English as a second language teacher in Seoul, South Korea.

In her final semester, she curated a digital portfolio showcasing her written work and original photography, reflecting both her academic and creative work. This portfolio was thoughtfully designed to be very sleek, clean, and straight to the point. Additionally, it served as a professional resource as it includes her contact information and resume allowing future employers, collaborators, and graduate programs to engage with my broad set of skills.

Moreno states that Digital UIC has been a helpful tool and resource. It gave her the opportunity to build an online portfolio while learning essential web design skills. For Moreno, these skills carried over to her current role as an ESL teacher in Seoul, where she continue to use digital tools to enhance lessons, create engaging content, and connect with her students in creative ways.

Near West Side Renewal Project

The Near West Side Renewal Project is created by Professor Elizabeth Todd-Breland of the History Department and her undergraduate and graduate students of the HIST 494 class offered Fall of 2024.

This project aims to document the University of Illinois Chicago’s history as an Urban Renewal project, and the related histories and legacies of displacement and organizing on the Near West Side and West Side of Chicago.

It includes a history of urban renewal around UIC, student written and designed blog posts highlighting gentrification, activism, and  local governance on renewal. Additionally, users of the website will find an Annotated Bibliography and a StoryMap of urban renewal.
